Families,
Thank you for sharing your child(ren) with us. We have had a wonderful start to the school year! This year at Jefferson, we have a clear focus on setting up structures that support students behaviorally. Our scholars come to Jefferson Elementary each day to receive a rich learning experience, and the below mentioned items will help us accomplish this.
We are committed to doing the following four things in all areas of our school:
1.) Precise Directions. We will give concise directions to students that focus on their movement, voice level, and participation.
2.) Positive Narration. We will positively narrate students to help them know exactly what learning activity it is that we expect them to accomplish.
3.) Accountability Hierarchy. We have an accountability ladder that all students know about. We want there to be no surprises for our students.
4.) Building Life Altering Relationships. We want to focus on creating opportunities to connect with our students, so that they know we are there to support them through their academic and personal pursuits.
When students arrive at school every morning, adults line the hallways and classroom teachers stand at their door to greet every student by name. This is an important practice that all Jefferson Elementary staff believe in.

Our Accountability Hierarchy is used throughout all our classrooms in our school. If a student is having a hard time following expectations, we will go through a series of steps.
1.) Verbal Warning(s)
2.) Focus Spot
3.) Reflection/Re-Teach Opportunity
4.) Buddy Classroom
5.)Mrs. Winningham or Mr. Gion will support the student + call home
**If you have more questions on what this looks like, please feel free to reach out to me or chat with your child's teacher. Your students will be able to tell you about this, too! We have worked hard at "keeping our reactions small" when a consequence may occur.

We are also working on two school-wide goals this year. We have created a social behavior goal and an academic goal.
---Academic Behavior Goal: Self-concept- this is the student's belief in his/her abilities.
---Social Behavior Goal: Responsible verbal and physical interactions with peers and adults: skills that demonstrate social responsibility, honesty, compassion, respect, self-regulation, and self-control.
**You can support your student by asking them how they are practicing these skills at school.
I feel incredibly blessed and honored to serve as your child's principal. Please know that my door is always open. I am happy to chat with you via phone, email, or in-person. Thank you for sharing each of your children with us.
In partnership,
Kelsey Winningham
