English Language Proficiency Standards

The new ELP standards were developed by the eleven-state ELPA21 Consortium, and are designed to be used by classroom teachers and English Language Learner (ELL) specialists. These new standards, which were adopted in April 2014, highlight the critical language, knowledge about language, and skills using language that are in college-and-career-ready standards and that are necessary for English language learners (ELLs) to be successful in schools. The standards also include correspondences to the Practices and Standards identified in the Common Core State Standards and in the Next Generation Science Standards.
